Iranian cyber army' hits Twitter
Security

Twitter has been hit by an embarrassing security breach.

A group claiming to be the Iranian Cyber Army managed to redirect Twitter users to its own site displaying a political message.

Twitter said the attack had been carried out by getting at the servers that tell web browsers where to find particular sites.

The site said it would start an investigation into what allowed the "unplanned downtime" to take place.

Address books

Twitter was hit by the security breach at 2200 PCT (0600 GMT) which led to users being redirected to a page showing a message declaring it had been hacked by the Iranian Cyber Army.

It showed an image of Arabic text overlaid on a green flag carrying the name of the third Shi'i Imam, Imam Husayn.

Torrentreactor Infected
Security

Threat Type: Malicious Web Site / Malicious Code

Websense Security Labs(tm) ThreatSeeker(tm) Network has detected that Torrentreactor, one of the oldest and most reliable torrent search engines on the Web, has been compromised and injected with malicious code. The site has been injected with an IFrame leading to a site laden with exploits. The exploits on the payload site include Internet Explorer (MDAC) and Microsoft Office Snapshot Viewer, as well as Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Shockwave.

If the user's browser is successfully exploited, a malicious file is downloaded and run from the exploit site. The malicious file has an extremely
low AV detection rate. The file (MD5: 24bd24f8673e3985fc82edb00b24ba73) is a Trojan Downloader and connects to a Bot C&C server at IP 78.109.29.116. After connecting to the IP, the file downloads a Rootkit installer from the same IP.

HP ships USB sticks with malware
Security

Hewlett-Packard has released a batch of USB keys for numerous Proliant server models which contain malware that could allow an attacker to take over an infected system.

The worms contained on the 256KB and 1GB USB drives have been identified as W32.Fakerecy and W32.SillyFDC. The worms spread by copying themselves to removable or mapped drives and affect systems running Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows NT and Windows 2000, according to AusCERT. HP's Software Security Response Team issued a warning to AusCERT this week after discovering the worms on the USB drives and has also provided a list of affected servers to the security response organization.
